[ggf-ogsa-sec-wg] What do people feel is status of our drafts ?
I've been having some discussions with the chairs about how to proceed
with this group and the draft documents. One of the discussion points
is "What is the status of the documents ?". The formal GGF status is
clear (they are working group drafts), but the
state of completion within the goals of the WG is not.
There seem to be various opinions:
a) The documents are done as of a certain date and were held
assuming a rapid conclusion of the relevent WS-* standardization
after which they could be made more specific in the selected
underpinnings. They should be published now, without that
specificity and still be relevant and useful informational docs.
b) The documents are drafts that have not got WG concensus because
there is not concensus on what a security architecture requires
or what an appropriate OGSA architecture is. Discussion is required
to get that concensus.
c) The documents make no sense outside the context of WS-*
standardization and should be held until that process advances
given the commitment of OGSA to a web services base.
d) The documents are not interesting since this is not a top-down
process. People should try several ideas for grids based on web
services and bring common components together for standardization.
I would like to get a sense of the working group about a) how many
people care enough to respond and b) which of these states represents
the majority opinion so that we can plan the path forward. Since
Berlin, there has been limited activity on the mailing list. We need
to understand if silence is consent or apathy.
