GCE testbed activity

Hi GCEers,

At the recent GCE workshop in San Diego we discussed the idea of getting a GCE
testbed together.  As I understand it,  several objectives were identified
including:  demonstration of shared or interoperating services across different
grid projects, facilitate knowledge sharing and reuse, and perhaps further our
understanding of what standards are important and what they should include.

As was appropriately pointed out by Gregor, its great to talk about doing things
like this but funding support is necessary to make any progress.  I am interested
in pursuing a small amount of internal funding to support this effort but to do so
successfully I will need similar commitment from at least one other
project/organization and preferably more.  We will also need to define some
specific objectives and/or projects.  During the workshop we tossed out a few
rough ideas but nothing too concrete.

Is there anybody interested in getting something started?  For the moment, I think
the key thing is to identify some projects and get committments of participation
so that funding can be pursued or set aside to support this activity.

P.S. Mary could you send out your notes on this particular discussion.  I believe
it was part of session 8 which is not yet posted on the web site.

I am particularly interested in shared/re-usable services and the protocols,
descriptions, and discovery services needed to make it all work.
