GCE: Proposed Activities

All -

The GF Chairs just finished meeting in Berkely to discuss documents
and other GGF things. Mary, Dennis and Geoffrey were all at the
meeting (the first time that all three co-chairs were together).
We have come up with some proposed ideas for GCE docs/publications.

First of all, there is the proposed special edition of Concurrency,
Practice, and Experience (se website for announcement). We hope
that many of you will be working on papers for this issue.

We are assuming that we will produce 25 CP docs for projects by July.
We will assume that by then we will have 15 CP&E submissions.
(due date will be synched with GGF2).

We propose to take these 15 papers, plus representatives of
others, use them to make other docs:
   1. Draft GF docs: define where we think the next steps are,
refine analysis by producing "portal focus summaries"
for GCE-WG. Identify categories/areas that portals
are using, and identify wg where appropriate:
		- events **workshop**
    		- Account Management Working Group (Accounts-WG)
    		- Advanced Programming Models Working Group (Models-WG)
    		- Application and Tools Requirements Working Group (Apps-WG)
    		- Grid Information Service Working Group (GIS-WG) **workshop**
    		- Grid Performance Working Group (Perf-WG)
    		- Remote Data Access Working Group (Data-WG)
    		- Scheduling Working Group (Sched-WG)
    		- Security Working Group (Security-WG)
    		- User Services Working Group (Users-WG)
		- others:
			- specifying user interfaces
			- portal protocols, portalML **workshop**
    2. Summary/overview GF doc version of items in (1)
    3. Other grid-like projects (p2p, jini, jxta,
		uddi/xml, espeak, .net, and so-on)
    4. overview/survey doc for CP&E
		- a review/summary of items in (1)
		- a review/summary of items in (3)

Please review lists under (1), and (3) to see if we are missing
anything. Also, we need to assign people to each topic to help
get this written. If you are planning on attending GGF2 in Washington,
this is a great opportunity to contribute. Items denoted **workshop**
are going to be discussed at the GCE Workshop in San Diego this month.

See you in July at GGF1, or in a couple of weeks at the workshop!

Mary
