GCE: Grid Forum 5

All -

Grid Froum 5 is just 2 few weeks away. As a new
group, our first focus will be to do the following:

   1. Commit to forming this group and defining
what we want to do and what our contributions
to the Grid Forum will be.
   2. Finalize a charter: I am readying a rough draft
       based on GF guidelines
       final version.
   3. Finalize chairs, secretary and a website maintainer.
   4. Initiate one or more whitepapers which we
       will use for later work.

We now have nearly 30 members on our list, and a wide
variety of views, our challenge will be to sythensize
these activities into well organized categories.

As a starting point for debate, I would like to work
on defining a set of basic terms and then agree upon
definitions. For example, what do we mean by grid
computing environments? What is a portal? What is
a PSE (problem solving env?). We will use the results
for our inital Charter and an initial 'best practices'
survey white paper.

I will post separate email threads for each of the
following topics:

1. What is a GCE?
2. What do GCE's try to do?
3. What services do GCE's need from the Grid?

If anyone cares to volunteer to 'champion'; these
discussions, that would be very helpful.
