* Overview:
A well-defined and robust architecture is required for Grid
computing (wide scale distributed computing). A critical component of
this architecture is a service that provides up-to-date information
pertaining to the "Grid." This information can range from relatively
static information (e.g., software that is deployed), to frequently
changing information (e.g., network bandwidth between hosts).
Consequently, a range of possible mechanisms is necessary to collect
and to publish the required information. Additionally, these mechanisms
must provide the ability to allow access-control policies to be
determined locally.
* Purpose:
The Information Services workshop is a forum for discussing
current experiences and new approaches used to provide the necessary
information to the Grid computing infrastructure. We plan to discuss
various issues pertaining to the discovery, acquisition and
dissemination of Grid-related information. If you are interested in
giving a presentation at this workshop, please send e-mail to
"steve@isi.edu". Suggested topics include (but not limited to):
o Current and Alternative Information Technologies for the Grid
o Information Discovery
o Protocols for Information Transmittal
o Global Namespace Conventions and Support
o Data Modeling for Grid Components:
Compute resources, people, networks, etc.
o Metadata for Grid Services
o Information Support for Remote I/O and Replica Management
o Grid Performance Monitoring
o Event Notification
o Publication Methods
o Web-based Presentation Vehicles
o Security Aspects of Information Services
o Performance Requirements of Grid Information Services
* Format:
The workshop is composed of a series of sessions, with each
session focussed on one of the topics listed above. Each section has
two major parts: presentations followed by discussion. For more other
information including hotel accommodations please visit our web page at
"http://www.isi.edu/info-services"
* Lodging:
Lodging at Ames Research Center is now also available for US Citizens
and people with Green Cards only (you must have your green card on your
person):
Rooms WITH television and phone: $50/night
Rooms WITHOUT television and phone: $30/night
Rooms are available on a first-come-first-served basis and cannot be
held, so make your reservation soon. Call the Lodge directly at (650)
604-4895 to make your reservation and be prepared to give your credit
card information to hold your room.
Please note: Visitors planning to stay on the Base (at the lodge) must
have a valid NASA Visitor Badge which they can pick up at the
registration desk and must be a U.S. citizen or have a "Green Card."
Another place to stay is The County Inn, 1-800-828-1132, it is directly
across the freeway from Ames--it is close enough to walk if desired.
Staying here avoids having to commute in heavy traffic in the mornings
and afternoons.
There are many places to stay along the El Camino Real in the Palo Alto
and Mountain View area. Have your travel agent find one close to
"Moffett Field/NASA Ames Research Center."
