[gce-rg] GGF NOMCOM call for volunteers
GGF NOMCOM 2004 Call for Volunteers
The 2004 GGF Nominations Committee for 2004 needs your help! The deadline
for volunteering is rapidly approaching: 23 January. General details are
below and even more details can be found at
http://www.gridforum.org/nomcom (the posting may be delayed a day or so.)
Please e-mail Beth Plale if you can help us. It's a great way to serve
the GGF community!
We are seeking volunteers for the NomCom 2004, the GGF nominating
committee responsible for recommending candidates to fill positions on the
Grid Forum Steering Group (GFSG) of members whose terms are expiring.
Typically, one third of the GFSG is selected each year. It is possible
that the NomCom will have to fill more or fewer slots than this, due to
the creation or elimination of positions by the GFSG, or by resignations,
transfers, etc. GFSG members whose terms are up are: Satoshi Matsuoka,
Applications and Programming Models; Andrew Chien, Peer to Peer; Jenny
Schopf, Scheduling and Resource Management; Marty Humphrey, Security; Ian
Foster, At Large and Andrew Grimshaw, At Large.
The nominating process is modeled after IETF RFC 2727, "IAB and IESG
Selection, Confirmation, and Recall Process: Operation of the Nominating
and Recall Committees". The GGF GFSG adopted IETF RFC2727, with minor
revisions, in 2003. The first phase in the process is to establish this
year's nominating committee, and that is being done by this year's NomCom
Chair, Beth Plale, along with Brian Tierney, past Chair,
and Cees de Laat, GFSG liaison.
To qualify as a volunteer, a person must have attended 2 out of the last 4
GGF meetings (note: this deviates from 2 out of 3 rule in rfc2727). NomCom
members are barred from nomination during the year they serve, even if
they later resign. Responsibilities, expected time commitment, and
confidentiality needs are detailed at http://www.gridforum.org/nomcom.
Community members who feel they meet these requirements and are
interested in helping are encouraged to volunteer. Please e-mail your
name, telephone number(s), and email address to Beth Plale,
plale@cs.indiana.edu, by no later than January 23, 2004. Please put
"NomCom volunteer" in the subject line.
Best regards,
Beth Plale, <plale@cs.indiana.edu> NomCom Chair (non-voting member)
Brian Tierney, past Chair (non-voting member)
Cees de Laat, GFSG liason (non-voting member)
